The Vancouver Convention Centre, now closed for today, abandon from any other visible person; is still a striking structure to behold. As the twilight turns to night the three dimensional model of the earth reflects off its glass walls, and makes the waterfront walk even more enjoyable.
“The twilight turns from amethyst To deep and deeper blue, The lamp fills with a pale green glow The trees of the avenue.
The old piano plays an air, Sedate and slow and gay; She bends upon the yellow keys, Her head inclines this way.
Shy thought and grave wide eyes and hands That wander as they list - The twilight turns to darker blue With lights of amethyst.” -James Joyce (at Vancouver Convention Centre)
Thankful for the trip out on the water, and short sailing lesson, before I had to leave to go back home; before the next journey begins. I love my clients! I'll miss you Vancouver. So the only limerick/poem I know about a Captain, or in this case the civil war is: "O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won, The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring; But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells; Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills, For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning; Here Captain! dear father! This arm beneath your head! It is some dream that on the deck, You’ve fallen cold and dead. My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will, The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done, From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won; Exult O shores, and ring O bells! But I with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead." - Walt Whitman #finance #financialplanning #workhardplayhard #entrepreneur #thankful #poetry #sailing #yacht (at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (official))
"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." -Albert Camus "Change your opinions, Keep your principles; Change your leaves' Keep your roots intact." -Victor Hugo "All the trees are losing their leaves, and not one of them is worried." -Donald Miller Hatley Castle and it's surrounding gardens are jaw-dropping. The breif respite, and return to nature between seeing friends and clients is regenerating. Reviving to one's spirit. Now to return home Calgary, knowing I'll be back next year. "I love that this morning's sunrise does not define itself by last night's sunset." -Steve Maraboli What's the story morning glory? The final sunrise in Montréal before heading off to Toronto. "Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected." -Steve Jobs After the recent trip out east, I was reminded of the Emerging Leaders conference from last year in Montréal. Wow, the event in 2016 seems so far away. 381 days, countless meetings, even more phone calls, 15 pounds, 23,000 kilometers driven, and a beard. Looking through the pictures revealed a few things, mainly; the oceans of wine and abundance of talent, training, and fulfillment of spirit (both meanings) that went on over the event. I am still thankful and humbled to have been selected to be part of it. Sitting at dinner, and tables that with senior executives, directors and peers from companies over 100 years old to ones just starting who were identified as emerging leaders, in Montréal, was an experience I'll never forget. Winery of the day #3 Tantalus Vineyard. Sobriety is a losing battle. This is what a vineyard looks like all to yourself on a private patio...if only for a moment. It makes me wish I could upload a 270 degree panoramic. My second glass of 2013 Riesling Special Reserve, something pretentious. It's awesome btw. #entrepreneur #finance #business #vacation #wine #winetasting #winery #okanagan (at Tantalus Vineyards)
