I wish she was more than just a girl locked in a room in the storyline with the Core. Id like to see more of her interactions with them. See the fascination vs responsibility conflict. I like the sidekick idea. She could be their guy on the inside. Could even leave them clues or sth. There were some really cool theories about her relationship with the Core during the hiatus. I want THAT.
I genuinely think s3 needed to be longer. Some things felt rushed, and it was just sad bc I saw real potential in them. Maybe if they had had more time they could have gone deeper with this storyline and gave Marcy (and Darcy) more screen time.
Also, I feel like s3 made it seem like she wasn't as heroic as Anne and Sasha. But the girl has got a statue in Newtopia and a no-fail mission record. She is awesome okay? She's a fighter. I am so excited to read about her adventures in the journal!
Still, I am glad that at least defeating Darcy wasn't the final final battle. That we got to see Marcy be awesome in her calamity form before the end of the show. If not for that, the ending would probably have been really dissapointing for Marcy fans.
I just came to a horrible realization. Marcy in season three was a Damsel in Distress.
Seriously think about it: aside from the finale, her only purpose was to sit around and wait to be rescued. Yes it would have been necessary to a certain extent no matter what, with the whole "being stabbed" business, but then they had to go ahead with that idiotic possession subplot and make Darcy an endgame villain. Marcy's brief mental world subplot in All In didn't even give us one of those "fighting the illusion from inside your mind" plots: she just resigned herself to her fate and hoped her girls would save her.
There's a very good reason the Damsel in Distress has fallen out of favor in recent years. Aside from the underlying chauvinism, a Damsel in Distress usually isn't a character so much as a lazy plot device, a prize for the hero to win after they've slain the dragon or killed the evil wizard or whatever.
The only thing worse than creating a character whose sole purpose is to be a Damsel in Distress is making an established character into a Damsel in Distress. And they did it to Marcy: a deep, complex character who was used amazingly in season two. They introduced Marcy as a deliberate foil to Sasha, gave us several episodes to get to know and love her, then dropped that massive bombshell in True Colors.
And how did they follow up that absolutely brilliant storytelling? They made Marcy into a fucking Damsel in Distress, whose only purpose for 90% of season three was to sit around and wait to be rescued. And for some goddamn reason they had to wait until the penultimate episode to do so, leaving no time for Marcy to interact with her best friends or truly be involved in the story.
Never thought of using that option tbh. Sure, realizing that a great fic hasnt been updated for a long time and it has most likely been abandoned can be heartbreaking but I can still appreciate the chapters that are there. Limiting yourself to reading only completed works deprives you of seeing so many interesting scenes and concepts for stories etc.
And yeah definitely, the authors arent paid to write fanfics, the best motivators they have are the love for the og characters and the energy they get from the rest of the fandom. They deserve to get a nice word for all the emotions their work is bringing about - doesnt have to be super long.
Btw sth one misses out on when reading only completed works is waiting for the next update and it can be fun too - wondering what happens next, re-reading to appreciate the details more, being super happy when it updates, getting excited whenever there is a snippet on the author's social media etc.
I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.
I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.
The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.
Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.
I want to see a work of fiction that reverses the "vampires are snobby upper class, werewolves are brutish lower class" stereotypes
you’re my frankenstein, and i’m your monster!!
(everyone go watch dead end paranormal park right now bc i have a mighty need for a second season thank you)

[ID: a drawing of norma from dead end paranormal park. she is singing aggressively into a microphone. her eyes are scrunched close, and she is holding out her hands to her side. behind her is a cracked mirror. the reflection in the mirror shows pauline in the same poses as norma. she is smiling as she sings into her microphone. there are clouds of smoke around norma’s feet. the background is green. I love how at this point whenever I see pink green and blue together anywhere my mind instantly goes "SASHANARCY"
Its like an amphibia version of this gif
Marcy and Sash really need that love they get from the fandom...
some drawings i did based on a the girls are raised in amphibia au
the idea was that the girls get transported to amphibia very early on, like 5-6yo. marcy was raised by olivia in newtopia and was like, kind of considered high royalty in newtopia. sasha was raised by grime and the toads, grime being the leader alongside his sister and another small group of toads, since they are ruled by a council opposed to a single leader, like in newtopia. since they have political relations, marcy and sasha have known each other since they were almost 15. they remembered? something about already being friends? but the way you remember things from your childhood, fuzzy and unclear. they get closer through the years and sasha falls madly in love with marcy, and tells grime about it. grime, who loves his daughter, is supportive of her, and also the fact that it could strengthen their political power. so sasha starts courting marcy, and marcy is enthralled by sasha. but, one day, marcy is out on a mission with yunan and a small group, to investigate some claims of some weird magic being used in some remote woods. and to her surprise, marcy finds another human! this new girl, anne is her name, feels so familiar to marcy, and they soon hit it off, and marcy is so curious about anne, and wants to spend so much time with her, which, doesn't bode well with sasha. a short rivalry between anne and sasha ensues, while marcy embraces the feelings she has for both of them.
I don't need sleep, I need to talk about fiction. She/they 💚💙❤️ aspec (gomens | ofmd | su | amphibia | toh | tdp | hellaverse | atla | httyd | arcane)
