Ever since Third Life, Joel has be considered as the madman or wildcard of the Life Series considering his polar behaviours ranging from domestic to deranged whilst remaining isolated as a solitary team for the majority of the first few seasons. But where did his madness originate from for the subsequent seasons followig Third Life?
While watching Marytn's Third Life collection of combined episodes, Joel ever so states "If you're the red king then I can turn into the mad king" during the recruitment of Dogwarts pioneered by Ren ad Marytn. Possibly kickstarting his descent into madness when he joined the Desert Alliance breaking the seal that released the curse of insanity.
The following season of Last Life only insinuated his madness due to his drive to team alone and the introduction of the Boogeyman and premature bloodlust.
But yet as the seasons progressed, his amount of teammates grew from his duo with Etho as the Boat Boys, his trio of "brothers" of the Bad Boys and finally the Mounders which included Pearl, Bdubs, Mumbo and himself.
This all leads to Wild Life where although his faction only consists of Gem and himself, Joel has managed to succeed through countless obstacles through his journey overcoming his madness and channelling it into motivation to win whilst also protecting his "family".

if you're talking people not seeing the difference between character and CC, then why don't we bring up Martyn getting death threats for playing a villain. I think the problem you're trying to talk about is more universal and is mainly happening outside of Tumblr (reddit and youtube comments). the OP of the post politely corrected you on the things you just assumed or attributed to them from other people, and you just disregard it all to talk about how they're actually an evil liar who is responsible for Scott's mental health or smth. You're trying to put your hate of this person in a pretty wrapping paper, thinking that makes you a better person. Why do you even think that negativity will kill negativity? If you were actually talking to a massive cc!Scott hater, what do you want to do? Bully them? A hateful mob will do more harm to the CC in question. No one wants to be a part of the "toxic stans". You're just averting all the potential Scott supporters by focusing on the haters. And Scott isn't a child, you can't protect him from people going into his chat or private messages and saying mean things. What's more, trolls love attention, and you're just handing it to them on a silver platter. Instead of crushing the floor underneath your own feet, it's better to uphold the foundation by building a healthy and strong community. There will always be haters and there will always be divergence in opinions, you can't control that. So make a safe space for yourself and others, be the person you want to be, accept people trying to grow.
I would talk about Martyn. I just have been focused on Scott. Martyn receiving death threats is awful. Anyone receiving death threats is awful, especially if they haven’t done anything to hurt anyone. My focus being on one person in particular doesn’t mean that I’m ignorant to it happening to other people. I’ve just noticed that it happens to Scott a lot when he’s doing the exact same things that everyone else in the series is doing and that many of them are praised for.
Obviously the problem is more universal than Tumblr??? I have never said that Tumblr is the only problem.
I responded to OP politely and explained why I feel the way that I feel about the situation. Disregarding is not the same as disagreeing. I didn’t call OP an “evil liar” nor did I say they were responsible for Scott’s mental health. I said that referring to a real moment as a “character moment” doesn’t excuse removing the context of a friend teasing a friend and doesn’t excuse villainizing the person. Scott usually isn’t playing a character. He’s just having fun with his friends, and a lot of people like to take that out of context. The same goes for Martyn. And Pearl. And Scar. And Gem. And Cleo. As for the “mental health” part, I would rarely say that one person on the internet is responsible for another’s mental health. I would say that making hurtful posts towards someone who has done nothing wrong with thousands of other people is a pretty fucking awful thing to do to someone. When I said that these posts are “affecting the creators”, I did not mean that they have depression over these posts. I meant that they have stated that they have avoided teaming with certain people because they get criticized for it. Scar especially has been talking about how frustrated he is with the fandom being overly critical of the creators.
I hope you understand that “analyzing Scott’s character” and then only referring to moments when Scott was distinctly not playing a character is the exact same as “putting your hate for this person in a pretty little wrapping paper”.
If I were actually talking to a massive cc!Scott hater, I would have to see what they have to say. If they’re targeting Scott for things that everyone else in the series does and being playful with his friends and they’re taking his teasing out of context, then I would point it out. If they’re just not a fan of Scott’s style or content, that’s a different thing entirely. That’s none of my concern.
My focus isn’t entirely on Scott haters? I have loads of posts that aren’t about Scott haters. If you think that me explaining that a post is hurtful is equivalent to me calling one person responsible for someone else’s mental health, then I don’t know why you think that I’m responsible for Scott’s whole fandom.
I know that Scott isn’t a child. Adults deserve to be defended too, especially when they haven’t done anything wrong. The main problem that I tend to try to address is that Scott gets targeted for things that his friends are praised for. In particular, a lot of people villainize him for teasing Jimmy, but those same people praise Grian, Joel, Martyn, etc. for the exact same thing. That’s clear homophobia. Scott doesn’t have to be a child in order for me to be disappointed with people taking his teasing out of context but leaving everyone else’s teasing out of context because they’re stereotyping the confident gay guy. In the case that referring to, I was referring to a post that was criticizing Scott’s “character” during a non-character moment and wasn’t addressing that Joel, who they were defending, was equally “guilty”.
Nurturing a community comes with tackling some issues within the community. I have lots of posts that bolster the community, and I have some posts that criticize people who are being horrible to some of the content creators. Pretending that all I do is be mean to people isn’t helping anyone, including yourself.
A divergence in opinions isn’t the problem. The problem is that a lot of people are being terribly critical of the creators and are trying to hide it by referring to real interactions without any kind of roleplay as “character moments”. That’s not a divergence in opinions. That’s taking a normal interaction out of the context that it was between friends and criticizing a real person for a decision that they clearly made out of character. It’s one thing to see someone playing a character and comment on the character’s actions. It’s another to see two people having fun as themselves and rebuke one of them despite the obvious friendliness of the interaction.
I am not going to be a safe space for people who are mean, intentionally or not, or outright cruel to people who haven’t done anything wrong, especially if they’re taking a friendly exchange out of context. That is not my obligation. If you’re going to be mean, you need to expect me to be mean right back. If you are genuinely trying to grow, that is a different story entirely. Most people I’m criticizing have no intent on changing their mind, and I’m going to be equally stubborn. I’m not going to create a space that’s passive to unfounded accusations. Please don’t ask me to tolerate the intolerant.
I get a little aggressive when I feel like someone has made unjustified accusations. This is probably not going to change any time soon. Criticizing the lack of fairness in accusing innocent people of horrible things is a fundamental part of who I am, for better or worse, whether you like it or not, and sometimes I go a little overboard. I apologize if you feel like I was over the top, but you’re going to have to deal with the fact that it isn’t going to change. I am not a perfect person, and so doing what I think is right may not always go well. Sometimes I make mistakes and go a little too far. That does not change my beliefs surrounding the issue.
Bringing attention to trolls is bad, sure. I believe that most of the people I am addressing genuinely believe that they’re in the right. A lot of Scott hate tends to come from internalized homophobia. People need to get that in check. Sometimes that means being direct about how much of a problem it is. If you don’t agree with me, then you can go your own way about it.
If you don’t like the space that I’ve created, then you don’t have to be here. Quite frankly, I’ve never expected any of my posts to get more than 10 notes. You can block me if you want. I’m sure lots of people have, and I have blocked lots of people just for mostly making posts about things I’m not interested in without tagging them. I don’t have to be apart of your community. It’s okay to block people to tailor your feed. You can also do this, I suppose. It’s the internet. Just don’t threaten people.
I hope this clarifies some things!
shiny duo concepts for mine and @tiredfoxtf 's au
Grian having black widow symbolism for always getting his friends killed and then calling his base where both of his teammates died “the spider’s nest” is insane actually
Aight ranting time, can we appreciate how revolutionary Double Life was for the Life Series fandom.
The introduction of the soulbound mechanic introduced another potential method to interact and collaborate with different members of the community. In the previous canon Life Seires, most alliances were built of the members previously collaborating or being close friends (for majority of alliances, and this is not discounting that all the participants of the Life Series weren't already friends), but with the randomized pairing of Double Life, it forced new collaborations and interactions. Resulting in the mechanic transferring into the fandom's version of their Double Life, Woven Life.
Involving dozens of participants from authors, artists and animators such as rusty_courage, cherrifire, xmaruu, kitsuneisi, mudboowl etc.
(Non RPF)
But what stirred up the fandom into an absolute frenzy was the shipping potential of Double Life. We had Box Boys (Ren and BigB), the Homewreckers (Bdubs and Impulse) which were previously a ship in Hermitcraft and the Divorce Quartet (Pearl, Martyn, Scott and Cleo) which were pretty substanial new pairs but don't scale to the sheer amount of popularity the subsequent pairing recieved/s.
We got Scarlet Pearl which is not a ship but a fan favourite persona with her pairing with Tilly.
We got Boat Boys which are Joel and Etho which was a due no one initially expected but blew up to the fascinating dynamic they had.
Then we got Desert Duo again after the escapades of Third Life which produced lore upon lore of angst and tension which further fueled the shipping train for Scarian.
And finally we got the Ranchers, Team Ranchers or Rancher Duo consisting of Tango and Jimmy. Another pair the fandom did not expect but are instantly attached to. The amount of potential and ideas from this duo grew in number from their light-hearted dynamic to the angsty moments in the subsequent sessions was intense. Lore-wise, their pairings were eventually reunited during the Hermits x Empires Crossover in Season 9.
So basically Double Life was big for the Life Series fandom.
i saw a post about 3L!Grian meeting SL!Scar, but since SL!scar never died i figured he can't see any of the winners nor join them before the next session, and they appear before him as shadows. also, i thought 3L!Grian would be really happy to see a scenario where scar didnt die by his hand and actually won.
