i genuinely believe that eventually bojack ended up reading books instead of watching tv or scrolling social networks (he is not very interested in it but he needs to spend pastime somehow....). and mr peanutbutter is almost always there to keep him company so... bojack reads to him and pb sometimes makes comments but most of the time he just listens and. in the end falls asleep (if someone with bojack's voice read to me i would fall asleep too). but bojack doesn't mind. he is also kinda used to discuss books with pb afterwards. and even sometimes chooses the ones he thinks pb might like (true love)
Thanks for responding and considering my idea! You even made wonderful art, thank you very much! I think that the fact that they are older would be one of the facts that would be more interesting in my idea, but at the same time I really think that it would take a while for both of them to consider the idea of having children... I'm not very good at math, but do you think it would work for them to be in their 40s after season 6? I guess that's PC's age, besides. But I don't really remember. Hopefully they would take about 10 years to consolidate the idea, when PB suddenly had baby fever and received a suggestion for Surrogacy. They would be around 50 years old, maybe. Then they would still be old parents. I was thinking they might have a stallion first, with Bojack's DNA. He could be a boy, in my mind, similar to Bojack. He would be shy, and obedient, a follower of rules. Although in adolescence I see him as more mean and rebellious, but with others and not with his parents. The problem of old age would be an important point in his story, as it would give him a sense of responsibility towards his younger brothers (Yes, Bobutter tried again some time later, but with Peanutbutter's DNA. It would be a pair of golden twins .), anxiety and constant worry about knowing how and when their parents could die. He would also be completely against drugs and alcohol, given Bojack's story. His name would perhaps be CrackerJack? Honoring his late great uncle. And the twins would be Sara and Lance. I'm still not sure about these names, but I thought it would be a good pun for Sarah Lynn. I thought about also giving compound names to honor Peanutbutter's parents, but I don't know what their names are, since they were never said in the series. They would be very hyperactive, distracted, but very smart twins. Sara would look a lot like PB, while Lance would, surprisingly, kind of look like Bojack. He loves sarcasm. They also really love Crackerjack, and almost always follow their big brother's orders. Lance admires his older brother a lot, but sometimes finds him very annoying. Sara too, but she already likes her brother's protective ways more, even though it can sometimes be suffocating.
oh actually your idea sounds even more interesting in that way. if their rather old age has any special effect on their relationship with the kids it'd be interesting to consider!
omg i was also thinking about labrador twins!! that's just such an awfully sweet concept! i also like that bobutters would name them after sarah lynn and crackerjack (or bojack could give one of his children the name harper out of strong sentimentality??).
you described their characters in an interesting way, especially crackerjack's one. it would also be interesting to explore it in more detail, and if you have any ideas exactly what he looks like, i would be glad to hear them!
thank you for your thoughts! they'd definitely make loving sometimes fucked-up parents. it would be fun to watch! :)
ok old married couple au, they’re both on the porch smoking, bojack gets a phone call, is like “here, hold this” and sticks his cigarette in pb’s mouth. PB starts smoking both cigarettes, and once Bojack is done on call he just lights another instead of taking his back from PB
This is funny in my head i hope im able to astral project that straight in your mind effectively
BRILLIANT brilliant idea
but it seems to me that omc!pb would only smoke when he was very nervous (as it was once shown in the first season), so this situation is more suitable for alphas, maybe at the beginning of their relationship?
anyway you inspired me and i made a comic:
pb after a spam attack on bojack's phone:
So, basically, in a world where BJ and PB start a relationship very early, their only salvation is to end the relationship. In my opinion. They would have to be fine alone. And maybe, a good long time later, maybe they could come back.
in fact, we have two versions of this au. kinda sub-aus. it sounds silly yeah but it works (in my opinion). it's alpha!bobutter au and old married couple au.
i've already thought about how i want to see the result of their relationship in alpha!bobutter au. and i came to the conclusion that there is no result as such. tbh, if you think realistically, they just don't have a chance. they are doomed. they are unlikely to break up, at least completely, and even more unlikely to get rid of their demons with therapy and all that. i would imagine their ending as a slow rotting together that ends with the death of both, sooner or later. therefore, i prefer to look at their relationship in this au as a process that has no end, because it's more interesting that way.
but old married couple au! i was just thinking about them yesterday. and damn, it's such a cool concept. freak and i decided that this au is pure fluff, which i just adore, and now it's kinda my favorite au
okay. now how i see it. we take freak's post and just soften everything a little so that it fits the concept of fluff (i hope you don't mind freak. if anything, we can always make sub-sub-aus /j). almost each au is based on an assumption, and this time we assume that the relationship (friendship at first, maybe) with mr peanutbutter helped bojack become, well, more tolerant. softer. not that he fixed him, it's just that his presence in bj's life helped him to be a little more rational and not such a jerk in many moments, which is why he at least did not spoil his relationship with herb (maybe he still got fired, but bojack at least supported him after that and they didn't cut off communication). bojack wasn't so indifferent and rude to sarah lynn. didn't agree to participate in the bojack horseman show. and accordingly, he has a lot less regrets in his life, and in addition, a reliable partner who gives him unconditional love.
i'm not sure if they started dating right away or if they were friends at first, in freak's post these circumstances are almost identical to those in alpha!bobutter au. i like to think that they first became friends, and their romantic relationship began more consciously (however, a casual one-time hookup as a catalyst seems interesting in this case too), although i can't say that they were both 100% ready for it.
bojack's stormy youth is over, and pb is with him. he still turns to alcohol sometimes, and this is a problem, but not nearly as serious as it was in the original. mr peanutbutter still doesn't know how to express his desires normally, suffers from toxic positivity and is rarely sincere, and only with bojack. but they're doing better together. it's not like in alpha couple au where two bad people meet and poison each other's lives, but rather like two people with flaws meet and try to live this life, supporting each other as best they can
i just like this au because then the title of the show would be smth like "BoJack Horseman Doesn't Have Any Problems and Others Do (Well, He Actually Has Some, But It's Okay)". i mean, they definitely have problems in their relationship, and they work with it as best they can. the arcs of the other characters didn't change in general, except for some additions (pc doesn't have to get bojack out of trouble to her detriment every day, todd lives with both of them and so on).
in my opinion, this au is needed in order to look at what the events of the show would look like if everything happened under such circumstances (although almost all the terrible deeds committed by boj didn't take place because i've already explained why, and they need to be replaced with something more light and it's interesting to speculate about too). and ofc FLUFF. and can you imagine what kind of relationship they would have if they had been dating/married since they were +-30 years old??
but i still need to know freak's opinion, of course, since these sub-aus are kinda ours. but in general, i imagine it like this. i wanted to make a post about it, and now the opportunity has appeared. thank you!
reverse!bobutter au: bojack and mr peanutbutter's roles are reversed, that's it
agent!pb au: mr peanutbutter was originally going to be bojack's agent, a cool and smooth-talking guy, and he was also supposed to be a golden retriever. so i made au based on this concept
alpha!bobutter au: bojack and mr peanutbutter begin a romantic relationship before the start of the show, around the mid-90s, and due to baggage of mental problems from both sides, especially and mostly bojack's, they become unhealthy and codependent. au is named after the alpha couple, a fictional couple that appears in early mountain goats songs. this post describes au in more detail
old married couple au: same concept with alpha!bobutter au, but here they have a healthy relationship. au was created for fun and to look at the actions of the show through the "what if" prism. mostly fluff. these posts also describe au in more detail quite well
it's him as a kid

How is PB like when Hollyhock comes into the picture in your AU?
i don't quite understand what au you're talking about. if you mean old married couple, then we discussed it in another post. i think that when everything goes back to normal, he would simply adore her. and he would definitely be terribly happy every time she visited them. he seems to be a girl dad, but at the same time he doesn't want to take on too much responsibility in the form of, you know, his own child, so sister-in-law is an ideal option for him
soo... this au won the poll, i am a little late, but the post promises to be long (i hope this is a good thing for you. because for me it is). i'll give you the exact dates and all that, because i feel better when everything is accurate. well you know
they got together in 1998, 6 years after pb began acting in "mr peanutbutter's house". it's just that bojack suddenly realized that his life seemed quite brighter with pb by his side, and that he was attached to him, and was no longer under the yoke of his homophobic mother, and decided to, well, give it a chance (same with pb, but less thoughts and worries). one day they somehow kissed, after a while discussed it and made their minds to "try" (no one really believed that this relationship would last long). and well they just... stayed like that. never broke up. feeling absolutely comfortable together and eventually not even considering ending the relationship or anything like that.
they got married around 2009, a year after the ban on same-sex marriage was lifted in california (at that time they had been dating for about 12 years). the show begins in 2014, respectively, at that time they had been together for 16 years, and had been married for 5 years.
as mentioned in another post about this au, they still have the same problems, but bojack has much less regrets behind his back, which is why his guilt and trauma are far from as strong as it was in original. he gets annoyed with pb when he is too positive about everything again, and pb gets annoyed with him when he tries to drown out problems with alcohol - substance abuse is still the case, but to a lesser extent. discussing feelings for them was initially a huge problem (because both are not good at it, and pb also tends to deny any negative emotions), but over time they somehow learnt how to work with it. they often screw up, but they try to get better, really. i vouch for them. they're doing their best your honor
they completely understand each other, to the extent that one can sometimes predict what the other will say verbatim. they have 10001 local jokes. while classics are more gentle and calm, these ones rather give the impression of that old flighty married couple who make fun of each other and initially you may not even understand why they are still together at all and how they tolerate each other... of course can also be super sappy sometimes, there's no doubt, since they're both lowkey a bit romantic - especially pb, boj often just plays along with him
both do films. bojack, unlike his classic self, still stars in some movies, but does it less often, because he is mostly disappointed in this field already; pb loves his career and accepts all kinds of offers. sometimes they star together in the same works (half of such cases end up with both of them being kicked off the set in disgrace)
by the way they like to throw parties in honor of each other! it's kinda their tradition. both try to make it as lavish and luxurious as possible, eventually turning it into another competition.
they live at bojack's place, yeah (it's just that bojack's house is familiar and i like it more lol. can also help to distinguish them from classics if it matters)
relationships with others:
princess carolyn is still bojack's agent, but at least now she doesn't have to dig him out of all sorts of troubles every single day. she has to dig out them both (but not that often) (something like attacking the postman or saying nonsense that will ruin your reputation. or setting a fire in the house because someone got distracted by tv), especially when pb becomes her client too. they are generally on good terms
at one of the halloween parties they also let todd stay at their place because they think he is a poor gay boy who was kicked out by his parents (pb persuaded bojack). he sleeps on their couch, but he can put things in the closet. he was once offered a guest room, he stayed in it for a couple of days and returned to the previous place because he likes it there more.
pb and todd are in the most positive relationship possible and quickly find common ground, while todd's relationship with boj is not the easiest, but good. pb tries to smooth things over whenever bojack gets annoyed with todd and treats him not very well, so overall they even have a bit of an idyll at home. many misadventures still remain there (like disneyland or halloween in january), but often bojack is also involved in some way (not by his will). todd's their son <3
i also like to think that boj still hires a ghostwriter for his biography because he wants to raise his popularity and take on the acting career more thoroughly. he and diane become friends as a result too, some arcs with their joint participation are preserved, some are not, depending on which ones. however this time there are no hints of a romantic relationship for understandable reasons
so in general, as i said, this is the original with minimal settings and with a pleasant (for some of us) bonus in the form of bobutter. suggest ideas and ask if you are curious about something! thanks for reading! <3
bojack and mr peanutbutter after the end of the show:
made an attempt to draw with a mouse like i had been doing for seven years before i got my tablet and it IS IMPOSSIBLE i really tried very hard
how did i manage to draw anything at all i'm in shock
