I am so completely taken by venetia, i think she is everything. She went through so much and i feel like we dont talk abt it enough.
The entire movie we re aware that she is battling anorexia and when she finally thought she found someone who could accept her as she was and someone who would love the more “disgusting” parts of her she was betrayed and let down and left alone in the cold.
Then theres the whole Henries thing, where everyone especially Elspeth, just sweep under the rug the fact that she would get touched or full on assaulted by them and elspeth just makes a silly quip “we can sit you next to oliver he ll molest you” and we just move on like its nothing.
And her final monologue is packed with so much pain and courage. Shes outwardly calling out oliver, shes putting a mirror up to his face and showing him what he is and that shes figured him out, as he stands there dumbfounded trying to get out of it.
And her death was so undeserving. We can see blood not only in the tub but also on the floor. Maybe showing that she regretted it and tried to get out to call for help but no one came and so she died alone knowing who put those blades there knowing she was betrayed and used in Olivers scheme to get to felix.
I just think Venetia Catton is brilliant.
I need to kiss him and cuddle him and cradle him and spoon him so bad it’s not even funny
hello hellooo are you aware of the long long string of emails from patrick bateman to his therapist released to promote american psycho (2000). because you should be! and you should read them, they are fantastic!
my tepid very lukewarm take is that oliver did not lie about the reading list and he actually was just a loser who spent his whole summer reading the bible
where are the posts and gifs celebrating and analyzing Venetia??? The vampire scene??? Her style, her heart-shaped sunglasses and wearing heels to play tennis??? Just, her presence in the film??? The way her mother speaks about her to total strangers??? The way that she calls out Oliver in her last scene??? Her recognizing him for who he is, and that being her undoing??? The tension that she holds within herself, just like Felix, but so much smaller in the eyes of Oliver and the film??? (I also think it's interesting that she and Elspeth have such visceral death scenes but Felix is just a cut away shot... Emerald Fennel your mind...) Please I beg of y'all talk more about Venetia!!! And stop posting so much about that nerd who was in the movie for five minutes.
Oliver ripped that tube out of Elspeth like she was a beyblade.
