The thing that is so exciting about the Thirteenth Doctor is the fact that she’s starting off with a clean slate. She’s excitable and childish and so much lighter than any of the other Doctors since the start of the 2005 series, and that’s because she can be. Doctors Nine through Eleven had their childish sides, yes, but there was so much darkness there behind their eyes and actions. So much pain. He was the last of the Time Lords. Until halfway through Eleven’s journey he believed that he had committed the most atrocious act of murder. But when Gallifrey was saved there was hope. Hope for the next day. Hope for the time when maybe, just maybe, he wouldn’t be so alone anymore. Twelve started out colder and more aloof but by the end he’d thawed considerably and even told the Doctor he would become to ‘Work hard, run fast, and be kind’.

And she does, and she is. She doesn’t hold onto the burdens of the past. She’s not the murderer of her people. She’s not the last of the Time Lords. She’s lost her family, and there’s real sadness there when she talks about them to Yasmin and Ryan and Graham, but she’s learned how to build around the grief and carry them with her. There’s steel there in her when she’s facing evil, but that’s simply the Doctor shining through. 

She’s just brilliant.

Goals. They still exist. Now onto a Broadchurch fic about a beached whale. Because beached whale.

Hoping David and his family the best comfort they can after Sandy’s death. I was just listening to ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken?’ and it made me think of my own uncle who loved God and his family and left behind far too many people behind when he died. But I’m thinking that Sandy, like my uncle, believed that that ‘circle’ won’t be broken even by death.

These guys are brilliant and my favorite Shakespeare to watch. Definitely worth the laughs.

Here’s the thing about Steve Rogers; he is not a delicate little flower. He is not really at all about patriotism, and you could even argue he’s not really about America, at least not exclusively. He is an extremely charismatic and intelligent leader, though he does sometimes have his faults when it comes to that. He’s a complex and compelling character, and when you distill his characteristics into a single, innocent, naive, cookie-cutter narrative, it honestly weakens the interesting aspects of who he is.

He is not completely ignorant about sex, sarcasm, or swearing. Steve Rogers frequently has sex, often initiates it, has an extremely dry sense of humor, and swears a lot, especially under stress. While he loves America, he’s slightly cynical because of how much it has changed since his time, and how he never asked to defend a time period that isn’t his.

His main things, however, are nobility and loyalty. He does what he thinks is right, even if it goes against the government, even if it involves violence or killing. He does what needs to be done, even if he doesn’t want to do so. He’s only human, after all.

I know that MCU Steve is different than comics Steve, but using the lack of MCU development to distill his character into an unfairly flat one is simply not something that should happen.

Maybe I'm stating what is completely obvious and I'm just somehow missing it, but I don't think Ian has anything to do with Trish's raping. I think he's got a hand in distributing the pornography around for the kids to see, which is why he wanted that laptop so badly.
