• The times when the sun gradually melts into the horizon, dyeing the ocean in oranges and gold while the sky fades into indigo, as they row along the waves in their boat are Watcher's favourite. During those tranquil afternoons, Watcher was always reminded of a certain, adventurous, child they met back when they started exploring the realms outside the Vault.

• The stone pin attached to their cravat is a memento of the times they crossed paths with said child multiple times in their individual journeys. They make sure to keep it well-maintained from being too worn out by age, though there's not much that can be done without professional help. Stone is different from cloth and wood, after all.

• That being said, their expertise was limited to the items they're familiar with. A boat is not one of them.

• Flashbacks to the time their boat eventually sank despite their best attempts in maintenance and repairs. But hey! It lasted a couple years beyond its lifespan, so there's that if you ignore the fact they're soaking and were crying in their heart for their boat (they got attached).

• Bless the stars they didn't bring their unfinished maps with them that day. They can't let those maps be ruined; not when they have yet to give those to their fellow sky kids.

• Fortunately, they got another similar boat (along with instructions on proper maintenance and repair) with referral from a friend, though they had to pay for it this time with the gold hairpin they had since they were a moth.

• Watcher is never one to carry coin; bartering for items with their maps is what they have for currency most of the time. Other than that, offering to become a ferryman for safe passage to a certain place on the sea is a last resort.

• The occasional ferryman business led to another rumour, that eventually evolved into another legend, on top of the one that's still going around carrying their name. But that's a story for next time.

(I- keep writing so much and revising it till it took now to get done shshhjgsghjj OP your writing gave me a lot of inspiration and I love it :3)

Name: The Afternoon Watcher

Pronouns: They/them

Personality: Albeit seemingly preferring to be by themself, either nodding off to the crackling of a bonfire as the sun rises or flying through their usual routes in the later hours, they are an earnest, caring child of a few words and a loving heart often expressed in their actions; quietly looking out for their friends whenever they pass by.

Name: The Afternoon Watcher

Background: The Afternoon Watcher has been around since as early as the 10th season, hailing from the Vault of Knowledge at the beginning of their moth years before actively exploring till they settled down on their main, set route where they've become known for their bright cape and display of light magic.

(I'll be calling them watcher to make more sense and simple. I hope that's okay for you!)

No kingdom was selected, so I'm randomly choosing one.

The kingdom I'm placing your skykid in is: Kaplam, the sea kingdom.

"The gentle sea breeze and the soft sounds of the waves made watcher slowly wake up. For a moment, they thought they were at sanctuary islands again, and hoped to see the beautiful whales and mantas, but instead what they saw were murals painted with light and ruins of a fortress, it's battles fought long ago.

Since the dissapearance of the realms, Watcher wanted to create new paths for each kingdom. The scale of each one wasn't what they anticipated, but they did want to see if they can create paths that can run through all kingdoms.

However, they didn't know prairie's protal was wildly different then the original. All that they heard about it was that it was just as peaceful as Prairie. This could be...bad. Especially since an ocean could make keeping tracks of paths difficult.

But! There has never been a journey they couldn't overcome. So picking up their staff, watcher began to descend down from the fort, ready to see what awaits them."

• The fort was a bit hard to maneuver through. There were some spirits that lingered around and because watcher was reminded of the spirits they fondly knew, they decided to help relieve them.

• When they finally managed to get out of the fort, it was already afternoon. White sandy beaches laid at the bottom of the fort and some boats, both buried and intact, lied untouched on them

• "Now, let's see where I can go..." watcher mumbled, as he tried to make sense of the sky. Just as they were about to fly off, a roar in the distance stopped them. Their breath hitched, as they thought the krill had discovered this place.

• But fortunately, it wasn't a krill, but instead two....giant flying lizard things??? They were viciously fighting each other, both clawing and biting each other in mid-air. But eventually one used its feet and plunged them into the others' chest, flying off with them.

•........Maybe it's best not to fly in this kingdom.

• Gathering themselves, watcher decided to use a boat instead. Luckily, there was one boat that still had paddles and wasn't half sunken in the sand. There was even a small lamp they could use! As they cheerfully pushed the boat into the sea, watcher hurriedly hopped on, beginning their journey. They pondered what they will find in this kingdom. New islands? Spirits? Maybe they should focus on finding another skykid to help them map out the kingdom.

• They weren't use to using a boat, but it was quite calming to just row away into the endless sea, using the clouds as a guide (A hidden skill ori children all have for when there are no more landmarks)

• As the afternoon passed and the night came, watcher stared at the stars as they mentally start making a map of where they should go as they lit the lamp and attached it to their staff. But then a giant ball of light in the distance came alight. Thinking it was some sort of town or another ori child using their firework staff, they hurriedly traveled towards it, only to find....a ship set ablaze.

• Watcher slowly slouched down on the boat as the roars of the flame drowned out the sea waves. They felt hopeless that they couldn't find another skykid on the first night, they could only stare at the fire. But then, something clawing on their boat snapped them out of their gaze. Slowly, Watcher looked over, fearing to find another dreadful creature and found...oh. It's a human trying to get on the boat, but they're too weak. Thank goodness.....

• "WAIT THAT'S A HUMAN!" Watcher cried out as they quickly grab the man and carried him over on the boat and hurriedly rowed away from the ship. Is he dead? Perhaps they could still save him! Maybe they still had some spells that could be of use? But the only ones they have are prop spells! A groan and some coughs erupted from the man, causing Watcher to stop rummaging and stare at him. Is he...alive? They aren't sure. They slowly shuffle towards him with the lamp and stare at his face. He doesn't seem to have any facial injuries, but his arm is badly wounded. The mans eyes slowly opens, but he still seems to be drowsy and exhausted. "Who....are you?" He croaked out. Watcher shifted uncomfortably before saying "I am called The Afternoon Watcher. Don't be afraid! I'm here to help you." They said, their voice softer then normal, not use to speaking after not interacting with anyone for some time.

• The man only blinked before drifting off to sleep again. Watcher had never heard nor seen a human, so this entire situation was something new to them. They formed a plan to bring the human back to his kind. Maybe they could find a nearby island or a seaside town to drop him off?

• After patching up the humans arm using their knowledge from their travels, Watcher traveled the entire night searching for a town and using the stars as a guide. Eventually when dawn broke, Watcher found a seaside town in the distance. The man was still unconscious, but it seems like he was breathing normally. As they neared the town, they tried to gently carried him on the docks (Keyword: Gently. Humans are incredibly heavy for an ori child. Watcher could only manage to get the man on the docks before almost passing out from the task) before climbing back on their boat and traveling away. They don't want to bother the humans, but they felt this was the only way they could save him.

• As the sun rose from the horizon, Watcher thought how much has happened in such a short amount of time on their first day here. Perhaps they misjudged this kingdom for being peaceful. As they put out their lamp, they stared at the distant clouds, wondering where they would take them again.

Additional headcannons:

• Turns out saving a sailor from a burning ship can spring up quite a few legends. Watcher somehow became the first legendary skykid among sailors called "The Watcher". The legend goes: If your ship has sank and none of your crew are left, a being cloaked in orange with hair as white as night, who glows on the darkest of nights and who carries a lamp filled with fireflies would save you and use their boat to guide you back home. Although the details are a bit overblown, Watcher can't help but nervously chuckle when the legend comes up.

• Uses their boat to help moths cross the seas if they were injured. They would often tell them stories as they travel

• If Watcher managed to find an island at night, they'll light up their bonfire and sometimes interesting people would find their way to them.

• Turns out there's lots of lost spirits out on the seas, so Watcher frequents the kingdom a lot.

With Campfires Crackling And Castles Built Atop The Sand Near The Pier, It Appears That Summer Has Rolled
With Campfires Crackling And Castles Built Atop The Sand Near The Pier, It Appears That Summer Has Rolled

With campfires crackling and castles built atop the sand near the pier, it appears that summer has rolled around for the second time since the twins first fell a year ago.

It has been getting a little warm lately. A bit windy, too, but as it was still in the middle of the current Season, Watcher didn't think too much of the changes in the air. It was just the mountain beyond acting up as usual.

Oh, how wrong was he.

It was warm when he woke up very early in the night just before dawn broke through the mist of Hidden Forest, the air carrying a noticeable coziness to it that he couldn't help remembering the first time they stepped out of the night of the desert and into the sunlight.

Again, the wasteland's watcher didn't think much of it. It's not his first rodeo to be subject by the occasional longing for a time that he cannot return to, and so he alighted from his hammock and went about his lightless morning like any other day.

Then a knock on the door sounds from the ground floor, causing his gaze to tilt towards below.

"Come in!" He yells out, going back to grabbing his mask from his bedside atop his perch.

H.K. peeks through the crack of the door after nudging it open, the lights of their eyes pouring out of the 'smile' mask and moving upwards to their master.

"Good morning, Watcher!"

"Morning." The older skid clad in yellow drops down in his birdly glory, before staring at the mask his student currently wears.

"Feelin' confident today, huh?"

"You could say that!" H.K. chirped, now fully opening the door.

"The weather is quite nice today, after all!"

"It's still dark out, though." Watcher deadpans with a smile in his voice. "Dawn has yet to arrive."

"True!" Then it was H.K.'s turn to stare, having just realized what kind of fit Watcher is wearing.

"Shouldn't you take a vacation? You've been working your arms off since this season started."

"A vacation does sound nice," he mumbled, "but I can't. Kids have been losing a lot of winglight since the change, and as much as possible, I'd like to be of help as much as I can until everything gets settled down."

"I still think you should take a break."

The bird-masked skid stared back. "H.K."

"What?" H.K. puts their hands on their hips. "I don't think I've ever seen you completely chill back and relax, aside from when you saw that pretty cape and the occasional stop at the graveyard's bonfire. But even then you just shoot up the moment you hear someone getting krilled-"

"H.K."

"And!" The Performance moth crossed their arms with a stubborn huff. "You lost about ten winglights a couple weeks ago! During a shard cleanup! That's the first time I've seen you get hit, and you always been fast on your feet!"

"You need a vacation, Watcher. You can't keep this up." Their hands loosen from their hold around each other and fall limply at their sides. "You do know that, right?"

"You always seem to know a lot."

"..." He stares at the skid younger than him for a moment, lips pressed thinly in contemplation before he dragged out a long sigh. "Alright. I'll take a vacation."

"Yes!" H.K. pumped a fist up in cheer. "For while this Days event is on-going, yeah?"

Before he could even fly up and change into his new cape (now that he's not going to his post in the wasteland), Watcher froze.

"I heard from the others that this was called..." H.K. tapped the tips of their hand against their chin as they recalled. "..Summer? Isn't that around when you were born-?"

"Watcher?" H.K. tilts their head at the still figure of their master. "Are you-?"

"Yeah, I'm listening." He says with a flippant wave of his hand as he continued to his closet.

"Dear Megabird, it's been a year already??"

"Mhm!" H.K. chirps in affirmation, failing to notice the way Watcher covered up his shock under a disbelieving 'mask'. "Which is why I set up a little something for you near Grandma's Treehouse!"

"That explains the mask." Watcher remarks. "It wasn't about the weather; you were excited for what you prepared for my birthday-"

The wasteland's watcher placed the ornate bird mask on top of the closet, before turning to the Performance moth in his glowing, green cape.

"-is that it?"

"Ding ding ding!" H.K. flashed finger guns at Watcher as he dropped down for the second time since his student came by. "I also got cake! And tea! And buns! And-"

They were promptly shut up by Watcher pressing his whole hand on their face.

"Are you planning to stuff me like a crab before Feast or something?" The one year-old skid rose a brow, his facial expressions now bare for the world to see. "You sound like you prepared a lot."

H.K. held Watcher's hand on their face and brought it down. Their brightness glows even through their mask as they jokingly replied:

"Maybe."

Watcher chuckled while he picked up a familiar looking instrument near the door.

"Who taught you to be this cheeky?"

"Who else but you!"

Then the moth begins dragging him by his hand, and as he watched from behind while they took the lead, he is reminded of a time when he would be dragged around by his twin like this.

"Now let's go! It's rude to keep food waiting!"

The ground beneath them fades as they fly off, and for just a second, he looked back to the treehouse. He wistfully watched his- their- home grow distant the further away they went, and he couldn't help but wish that his twin was here to celebrate their first birthday together.
