My parents: you’re such a good writer, when are you going to write that story you were working on
Me with the character list and story point notes that I’ve been working on since 11th grade: haha so about that…
I saw the part about how the patriarchy also negatively affects men, and I wanted to expand(?) a bit more on that.
Yes, the patriarchy centers around having men in the main position of power, both at the home and on the political scene (to name a few examples), but it also sells the idea to men that they have these conform to the stereotypes that the patriarchy perpetuates.
And I’m not ignoring the great privilege the patriarchy gives to men, but we can’t ignore the harm that it also causes them.
The idea that men HAVE to be leaders, that they HAVE to be strong, that they CAN’T be vulnerable
We should be able to recognize the harm the patriarchy causes to women without pushing the harm it causes all other genders, but specifically men in this instance, out of the picture.
I want there to be fewer MRAs. Do you want that too? Do you want to know what helps us get there, from a feminist perspective?
You may not like my answer: acknowledge that sexism can affect men. Recognize that, although the patriarchy generally privileges men, they are also subject to restrictive gender roles that are harmful to them (shunning all things “feminine,” not showing emotions, being protectors/strong, never admitting being victims of SA/IPV, having to “earn” their manhood, etc.).
Give young men a place other than the right-wing manosphere to be heard about the issues they experience. If these grifters are telling them “only we understand how hard it is to be a man, the left hates you for your gender” and they look to the left and see “men claiming they have ‘problems’ are losers who just hate women, all men are trash,” do you think they’re going to be drawn towards or away from feminism?
Before you leave an angry response: no, this does not mean to center men instead of women in feminism, it just means including them at all. No, it is not “coddling” men to treat them with human dignity, you can and should continue to hold them (and every other gender) responsible for unpacking sexist beliefs. No, this does not mean it is every individual woman’s and feminist’s responsibility to prioritize men’s issues, it just means at the least not shutting them down when they do speak up about sexism. No, it is not “not all men-ing” to point out that “men are trash” sentiments hurt the feminist movement rather than helping it. Ask questions before you make accusations on this post, please. I have been abused by men too, I get it, this isn’t easy to hear.
Check out above post if you want more context
Ok so according my results from these tests:
I’m inclined to believe that I’m an ISTJ
I had also initially taken the keys2cognition quiz around the same time I took the first sakinorva test and I basically got the same results as this recent one on here (unfortunately I had deleted the past results and can’t get them back)
REAL
Like why can’t I be a being of mist or something???☹️☹️☹️
Nonbinary dysphoria is wack bc sometimes I look in the mirror and I’m like oh no I look too masculine and too feminine at the same time.
Sometimes you just want to look like a blob.
I hate that the possibility of me not being able to finish college and get a bachelor’s degree is getting more and more realistic.
I’m relying on a scholarship type thingy that pays a big chunk of my tuition but it relies on my grades, I need like all A’s in order to be able to keep going to college. I know that theoretically I didn’t but I can’t help but feel like I failed.
It also doesn’t help that I can’t really work due to disability (I unfortunately was unable to get benefits even though one of my testers(?) said I need it).
🤸 Welcome to marine facts with Bagel: part 9
When a bloom of jellyfish get close to the surface, like really close, that's usually a sign of something wrong (usually things like over heating) (idk how to word it) within the waters they inhabite (if that makes sense)
Bagel out 🤸
I have watched “The Witch” (also known as “The VVitch”) this Thursday (Halloween) and here’s something I noticed this run through that I missed the first time I watched it
Spoilers ahead
Ok so Thomasin in order to prove that she is not the witch who has been tormenting and murdering her family and that it may be Jonas and Mercy (two of her younger siblings) she states that Lucifer is known for taking the form of a horned beast (such as a goat), the twins constantly say that Black Philip (who is a goat) (and is actually the Devil in the form of a goat) tell them things, Thomasin says that the Devil always whispers in his adversaries(?) ears WHISPERS (she reiterates the “whisper”which is why I capitalize it like that)
Then the mom, Katherine, has a dream(?) that her two other children, Sam and Caleb have come back to her, in this dream the older son Caleb whispers the whole time even asking her to look at a book for him, which it is stated that the Devil has a book that he gets people to sign
This means (and I could be wrong) that the Devil used Katherine’s grief over her dead sons in order to get her to sign his book
Alright since the results for part 1 came in it’s time for part 2 I’ll let y’all know if any of your guesses were right after this one
🤸 Welcome to marine facts with Bagel: part 3
Unlike us humans whose hearts accelerate when we panic or get scared a narwhal's heart does the opposite and slows down. When panicked narwhals can essentially become so scared that their heart slows down enough to the point that it stops. When scientists are trying to help narwhals that are stuck under ice they have to be extra careful because of the consequences scaring a narwal has.
Bagel out 🤸
I feel like there’s a pretty common misconception that agender (and by extension, nonbinary) people only use they/them pronouns. So here’s a reminder that our identities are just as valid regardless of what combination of pronouns we use ‼️
