Mmmm. 17776 might be one of the few utopian pieces of fiction I can actually see as beautiful and a world I wouldn’t mind living in. I think it’s because tragedy exists within it. And it’s mundane tragedy and also tragedy that is physically incomprehensible to us, who WILL die one day, but very much emotionally comprehensible because it stretches out tragedy’s scope and bounds and who can be considered tragic (the sunken city of New York, where everyone survived but the city is still gone. The lightbulb which stayed on for hundreds of years. The concept of being in love and having to be away from each other for 100 years, even though you are quite literally immortal.) like taffy . And still joy exists, and joy- mundane, pleasant, playful joy- is the force pushing continued existence, pushing the sentience of space probes, pushing the desire for us to pointlessly, happily, play

i genuinely wanna make like a 17776 version of golf now

like golf but its crazy huge and has weird rules

i might make a computer game for it but thatd like suck to fully develop

maybe ill use google map data to procedurally generate a world

i could also like spend months making a map generator but i dont fell like that jaja

easiest method would be to make like a topdown golf like in 8- and 16-bit games

ok so im putting together a video essay and ive been rereading 17776 and 20020 for it and i just got the best idea

so an online football videogame where each person is a player and yall all got proximity chat and stuff and its like football

like theres a ball and you gotta like run it and get to the goals n shit

but each player is an individual human and the field is really fucking long

there should probably be obstacles too just so you arent running through miles of nothingness

but basically every day you and the GANG have a 1 hour schuduled long football time where you play the football one hour

and then do the same thing next day

idk how many players youd need and get rid of all of the stupid football rules and make it simple n shit so you don't have to really worry about stupid stuff but mainly just runball

but long too

oh yeah and if you havent read 17776 or 20020, first, this is american football but actualy euro football would work too. and second, READ 17776 AND 20020 ITS SO GOOD
